The special thing about a typical Apulian masseria is that it has grown and matured over the centuries. At Bambarone La Masseria you can still see this today. Many of the rooms originally had completely different functions. Others no longer exist. And many have been added to the existing buildings over time.
In the same way, each room is unique. During the renovation, many hidden details were revealed. Historic floors, bricked-up fireplaces, staircases, and even entire rooms (albeit small ones).
To honor the historical heritage and make it more accessible to the guests of the masseria, Henriette Schneider, the architect and co-initiator of the project, has sensitively modernized and individually designed each room.
The rooms are accordingly not only numbered, but also have names that refer to their original function or to an almost forgotten term of the Apulian dialect. For example, “mieru”, an ancient term for Apulian wine, which had already coined by the Romans and has survived to this day. Or “carusa”, which was used in Salento instead of maid. The question now is whether you prefer to stay in the old wine magazine, in the maid’s room or in the goat shed.
