Water has always played an existential role in the southern Mediterranean. Wherever possible, water was collected in cisterns under the houses. In Bambarone La Masseria such a cistern was located directly under this room, which in turn was located directly under the kitchen of the time (today Room 11 “La Fréscura”), creating access to the water via a well shaft. In memory of this, the present room No. 6 is called “Il Pozzo”, to remind us of these precious water cisterns.
Here you are on solid ground. The original historic Chianche stone floor has withstood the wear and tear of centuries and will continue to do so. With its thickness of up to 25 cm, this should not be surprising.
